JUNE 7, 2021 – Recognizing their long records of excellence in counseling and defending leading employers, the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers has elected Davis Wright Tremaine's Camilo Echavarria and Portia Moore as Fellows.

Election as a Fellow is reserved for attorneys who have made a sustained contribution to the practice and who meet the College's high standards of integrity, professionalism, and character.

Camilo and Portia are both longtime leaders at Davis Wright Tremaine. They currently serve together on the firm's Executive Committee as well as the firm's Diversity Executive Council. Camilo is also the firm's Los Angeles partner-in-charge.

For more than 20 years, Camilo has worked with large and medium-sized employers in California to defend them in employment lawsuits—from single-plaintiff to class action cases. He also provides clients with practical employment advice in their day-to-day operations and helps them navigate California's complicated employment laws while understanding the need to run a profitable and successful business.

Camilo is active in the community. He serves on the board of directors for the California Minority Counsel Program, the board of trustees for the Mexican American Bar Foundation, and the board of directors for Friends of the Children, Los Angeles.

Camilo's previous honors include being named one of the Top 100 Under-50 Diverse Executive Leaders by Diversity MBA Magazine, one of California's 75 Top Labor and Employment Lawyers by the Daily Journal, and one of the Most Influential Minority Attorneys in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Previously, Camilo was head of Davis Wright Tremaine's diversity and inclusion committee as well as the Southern California president for the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Portia focuses her practice on complex litigation, emphasizing defense against wrongful termination and race and sex discrimination claims. She has served as lead counsel in numerous employment discrimination cases, including charges of sexual harassment and retaliation. Earlier in her career, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney, in which role she presented criminal indictments to federal grand juries, conducted jury and bench trials, and argued before the 9th Circuit.

Portia has received wide recognition for her career achievements, including being named one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers by Savoy Magazine and one of Washington's "Most Powerful and Influential Women" by the National Diversity Council. She was selected to the Best Lawyers "Women of Influence" list and has been chosen for the Washington Super Lawyers list by Thomson Reuters each of the last eight years.

Currently a member of the attorney evaluation committee at Davis Wright Tremaine, Portia was firmwide diversity & inclusion chair from 2015 to 2018. She was also selected to receive the firm's " Edward J. Davis Diversity & Mentorship Award." She is a longtime board member of the Loren Miller Bar Association, the nation's oldest minority bar and largest organization of African-American attorneys.

Camilo and Portia will be formally installed later this year in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section. They join other Fellows at Davis Wright Tremaine, including: firmwide employment practice chair Mark Berry of our Bellevue office; Henry Farber, also in Bellevue; Seattle partners Robert Blackstone, Mark Hutcheson, Michael Killeen, and Michael Reiss; Los Angeles partner John LeCrone; New York partner Laura Sack; Portland of counsel Carol Bernick; and San Francisco partners Jeff Bosley and Judith Keyes.
