MAY 14, 2025 – Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is pleased to welcome two preeminent IP attorneys, Maria Anderson and Mauricio Uribe, as partners in the firm's Seattle office.
Anderson and Uribe focus on IP and technology licensing, patent and trademark protection, data privacy, and IP enforcement across multiple technologies. They come to DWT from Knobbe Martens, where they were both longtime partners and helped found the firm's Seattle office.
"Maria and Mauricio are a significant one-two punch," said Alexandra Nicholson, national chair of DWT's media, entertainment, patent, trademark, and advertising group. "They've worked side-by-side for years and bring to us highly sophisticated expertise and a combined six decades of experience serving innovation-driven clients. They will significantly expand our capacity to provide industry-leading IP counsel, in Seattle and around the country."
Ranked by Chambers USA as an IP leader, Anderson develops and defends patent and trademark portfolios for a diverse group of clients. These range from individual inventors to the world's largest companies, across industries that include consumer electronics, medical devices, food and beverage products, internet technologies, and AI. She has guided her clients from the earliest rounds of financing through initial public offering and beyond. In addition to counseling on patentability and infringement matters, she creates comprehensive IP programs for pre-litigation, licensing, and enforcement/defense purposes. With a keen eye for brand protection, she has helped many clients establish and defend their trademarks in competitive markets.
Uribe has cultivated a practice advising companies at the forefront of technology and innovation with a business-focused mindset. He is well versed in a variety of industries and technologies, including medical devices, financial services, software and networking, telecommunication, consumer electronics, recreational vehicles, automotive, and AI/ML. He is a frequent lecturer on various legal and licensing topics related to intellectual property and emerging technologies. Uribe also has a particular skill set in developing, reviewing, and licensing standards essential patents (SEPs) on a worldwide basis.
"Maria and Mauricio advance the DWT strategic plan in myriad ways, including expansion of our services at the intersection of tech and IP litigation," said Wendy Kearns, DWT's Seattle partner-in-charge. "They will also further solidify our position of leadership in the Seattle market and elevate our national capabilities across patent, trademark, technology licensing, and other areas of strategic focus."
Said Anderson: "Over the years, we have developed deep relationships with a number of IP partners at DWT and have come to appreciate the extraordinary value of the firm's platform and culture. I am very excited to continue growing my practice alongside this exceptional group of colleagues."
Said Uribe: "DWT is a lynchpin of the Seattle legal community. The firm has helped to create the remarkable tech ecosystem that exists there today and is a key contributor to its continued growth and innovation. DWT clearly shows that top-of-market legal excellence can coexist with collegiality, and I'm delighted to be able to add my practice and experience to this outstanding team."
In addition to being listed with Chambers USA, Anderson has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, the World Intellectual Property Review, and the IAM Strategy 300.
