MARCH 29, 2024 – In the 2024 edition of the WTR 1000, which recognizes the leading lawyers and firms worldwide in trademark practice, World Trademark Review has named ten attorneys from Davis Wright Tremaine LLP as leaders in their respective markets.
The annual ranking evaluates factors such as depth of expertise, market presence, and favorable reviews from clients and fellow attorneys. G. Roxanne Elings and Alexandra Nicholson were singled out by WTR as "two of the country's top practitioners" and four Davis Wright attorneys were newly added to the rankings.
Davis Wright's team was ranked as a leader both nationwide and in four major markets (California, New York, Washington state, and Oregon). WTR described Davis Wright as "one of the country's leading outfits in the media and entertainment industries," and said the firm had been lauded in its research as "the go-to firm for issues ranging from First Amendment questions to IP clearance to marketing and other digital questions."
"When it comes to trademarks and other soft IP rights," said WTR, "the depth of the group's bench has few competitors."
Specific results included the following:
G. Roxanne Elings, a partner in Davis Wright's New York office, was once again listed as a nationwide leader in three practice areas: anti-counterfeiting; enforcement and litigation; and prosecution and strategy, for which she received a Gold ranking. In listings for the New York market, Nicholson was awarded a Gold ranking in prosecution and strategy and Danielle Toaltoan was newly added, with WTR noting her successful work on behalf of clients including Warby Parker and Balenciaga.
In California, WTR described Scott Commerson and Rasheed McWilliams as "top-shelf litigators" and added them for the first time. The publication noted Commerson's "extensive anti-counterfeiting expertise" and McWilliams' experience in "a range of IP matters over two decades," including, most recently, litigation in the food and beverage space. Veteran entertainment attorney Alonzo Wickers, a longtime WTR honoree, was described as "a top choice for content creators."
Davis Wright achieved a Gold ranking overall in Washington, one of only two firms to receive the honor. Cindy Caditz was awarded individual Gold and described as "an astute trademark strategist." New to the listings is Bonnie MacNaughton, leader of the firm's cybercrime practice, who has achieved national stature as a defender of companies' assets, brands, and customers.
In Oregon, Davis Wright was also awarded a Gold ranking. WTR recognized Sheila Fox Morrison as "a sure pick for those with national and international trademark portfolios" and "excellent business partner," while Steven Klein was newly added to the list and described in WTR's research as "diligent, creative, and responsive."
