There's no substitute for experience.

Events

There are no upcoming events to display.

The California Consumer Financial Protection Law (CCFPL) and the new California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) will significantly impact consumer financial services regulation in California. DWT's DFPI Taskforce helps you understand the department's purpose, authority, and resources as it seeks to become the "premier financial regulator and national model for consumer protection."

What We Offer

Holistic view of the fintech market and California's regulatory and enforcement trends

Our integrated team of financial services and technology attorneys works every day—in every part of the fintech ecosystem—to overcome the industry's challenges and capture its opportunities. We have helped global technology companies, emerging fintechs (including more than five unicorns), top financial institutions (including four of the top six card issuers), and several fintech-enabling banks as they develop state of the art products and new delivery mechanisms for consumers in California and other states.

Comprehensive understanding of your compliance needs

Our experience advising on consumer credit and payments regulatory matters under federal and California (and other state) laws is among the most extensive in the industry. This enables us to provide you with practical, business-focused recommendations that help you address your particular regulatory and compliance challenges, whether in California or elsewhere.

We know how regulators think

Our approach is informed by our team of experienced former regulators— longtime private practice lawyers and partners who served at the CFPB, the Federal Reserve Board, the Federal Trade Commission, offices of state attorneys general, U.S. Attorneys' offices, and other agencies. Our familiarity with California regulators—from licensing and registration to enforcement—helps us identify problem areas that might be subject to scrutiny, and stave off potential CFPB actions.

Leaders in California enforcement litigation

For over a decade, our fintech and payments enforcement and litigation practice has represented clients of all sizes and industries before the then-DBO, California state and federal courts, and arbitration venues. Such matters have ranged from defending against individual and class actions to claims involving payments, lending, and other financial services issues.
